Although these prints are captured in a digital format, the creation process is a painstaking effort typically requiring several months of research. There are no shortcuts or copy-pasting. Everything you see has been constructed from scratch in a digital environment using original plans obtained from the ship builder or design agent.All prints are plotted on durable matte finish polypropylene film which will not distort or yellow with age. All prints are unframed and are shipped rolled in tubes.This print captures the SL-7 class high speed containership, operated by SeaLand Service Inc. from 1973 to 1982. The SL-7 began with Malcolm McLean's vision of a weekly round-the-globe container service and ultimately resulted in the fastest class of freight ship ever constructed. The SL-7s were the first purpose-built containerships to be acquired by SeaLand. They boasted the largest boilers afloat and achieved a jaw-dropping speed of 33 knots during sea trials.No less astounding were the behind-the scenes efforts by the team of engineers at SeaLand and JJ Henry to design and deliver 8 groundbreaking ships in only 3 years. No small feat considering that most shipyards had no interest in building what was seen as a highly risky design. A conglomerate of three European shipyards ultimately teamed to build the ships which remain an icon of the American Merchant Marine to this day.
