-History of the mask/ "Doctor of the plague"The mask dates back to the 14th century.
It was a kind of respirator and had two openings for the eyes covered with glass lenses, two holes for the nose and a large curved beak, inside which were contained several fragrant substances such as spices and medical herbs.
The purpose of this mask was to keep away the bad smells that were feared responsible for the contagion.
Particularly used in Venice during the last plague of the 600', it also became a carnival mask exorcizing the plague that hopefully will never come back.
