Knickerbocker's History of New York by Washington Irving - Franklin Edition 1887. Originally titled, A History of New York, subtitled From the Beginning of the World to the End of the Dutch Dynasty, is an 1809 literary parody on the history of New York City by Washington Irving. Originally published under the pseudonym Diedrich Knickerbocker, later editions that acknowledged Irving's authorship were printed selling as Knickerbocker's History of New York.
Note: This is the Franklin edition dated 1887. It has a beautiful cover illustration. The Cover says illustrated, however I don't see any other illustrations in the book.
Condition: This is an antique book that is over 130 years old. Book is in fair condition with heavy wear and fading to the cover, wear to edges and corners, darkened discoloration and heavy wear to cloth spine. The text block has cracked spine, but is still attached to book, which may have been repaired by a previous owner with the open weave binding fabric. The first two blank pages before the title page are detached. The pages are brittle with heavy aging and discoloration. Some pages are ripped and there are a few little pieces that have chipped off at edges. I don't see any writing in the book. This book is likely a bit fragile for reading but would be a great decor and conversation piece.
