Selling Vintage Textbook: Barnes' Complete Geography 1885

Barnes' Complete Geography by James Monteith, 1885, A.S. Barnes & Co., New York Edition. 141 pages and an 11 page supplement titled “Monteith's Complete Topical Reviews.” All pages present. Hardback, 10x12.25 inch, cloth covered boards, cloth is fraying, worn away on edges, split along spine. Corners bumped. Cover is soiled. Binding is strong and holding. Inside front and back end-papers are covered in pen selling markings. Hand stamped in purple in a 2x1 inch rectangle on title page is: “Board of Education, New York City, F.D.G.S. No. 71, Feb 11 1899” Full color maps, black & white illustrations. Pages are age-darkened, minor pencil marks, stained, soiled, some tears on margins, no major tears or holes.
The maps depict pre-WWI borders and empires. The U.S. map shows “Indian Territory.” The text also discusses “States and Territories.” Transportation and Commerce discusses not just ships and trains (as there were no cars) but also camels, dog sleds, or llamas.
This book would be appreciated by cartographers, historians, educators, or anyone interested in life in America at the turn of the 20th century.
