This is an original photograph, taken at Mesa Verde National Park (near Durango, Colorado). For over 700 years, the Ancestral Pueblo people built thriving communities on the mesas and in the cliffs of Mesa Verde. Today, the park protects the rich cultural heritage of 26 Pueblos and Tribes and offers visitors a spectacular window into the past. This World Heritage Site and International Dark Sky Park is home to over a thousand species, including several that live nowhere else on Earth.

I get to Mesa Verde as often as I possibly can – not just to collect photographs, but to connect to the spirit and soul of this very special and sacred place. On this journey, I was very lucky to stay at the Far View Lodge within the park (quite a treat for me!). It was spring, so it was quiet; the winds were gentle, the (usual) heat was yet to settle in, and every nook and cranny held beyond-words treasures from the past. I honor the lives and experiences of these people, and marvel at their… SPIRIT!
