Moonstone Pendant, Blue Moonstone Cabochon selling in Sterling Silver (7 ct) Gem Clear Moonstone Jewelry, Christmas Present June Birthstone Necklace

This pendant features a cabochon of transparent moonstone with a bright silver-blue sheen. The stone is set in solid sterling silver wire and weighs in at 7 carats.

Moonstone has been celebrated since antiquity for its unique, sheen. The comparison of the its silvery glow and rays of moonlight is a truly ancient one, and the reasons why are obvious when looking at a piece. The soft light held within has a very ethaereal look, unlike just about any other gemstone. Though the sheen can come in silver and golden hues, stones with a blue glow are the rarest and most treasured.

This piece is a great example of a high quality moonstone with a crystal-clear base and bright silver-blue sheen. Stones of this quality have gotten rarer and more difficult to find--this year at Tucson I was looking for quality rough wherever I went, but could selling not find any classic Indian material of top quality. One booth, however, had some fine moonstone rough from Madagascar, which has ended up cutting extremely nice gems. The clear base allows the sheen to shine even more brightly, filling the stone with bright light. I cut this stone myself.
