This devoted loon mother on her selling nest in May inspired this watercolor/mixed media work. As I watched and sketched amid a cloud of mosquitoes, I was able to observe that the mother too was fighting the onslaught of pesky mosquitoes. She sat on her nest in the rising temps and would occasionally crouch in an effort to camouflage herself when she heard loud voices oblivious to her presence behind her. Soon she grew accustomed to the din and continued her battle with the bugs.
