An 1884 U.S. Morgan Dollar coin, New Orleans mint ("O" mintmark). This coin is in Mint State condition, with no wear, strong luster and white surfaces. This listing is for the exact coin pictured.
The Morgan dollar derives its name from the coin's original designer, George Morgan. The obverse features a portrait of Lady Liberty, while the reverse features a bald eagle with wings triumphantly spread. The eagle grasps selling a clutch of arrows and an olive branch in its talons, symbols of military might and peace.
These beautiful U.S. coins, minted from 1878-1921, are the iconic Western silver dollars. The silver in these dollars came from Nevada silver mines, and most of these coins circulated heavily among bars and saloons in the west. This is a large, hefty chunk of .900 fine silver, measuring an inch and a half across and weighing in at nearly an ounce.
Specifications: 38mm diameter, 26.7g weight, .900 fine silver. The coin will be shipped in a archival-quality Mylar flip, secured in a corrugated cardboard safety mailer. Each flip also includes a small insert with basic info on the coin.
